Forests to Faucets

In this interactive workshop you’ll learn, first hand, where your drinking water comes from. You’ll explore our mountain watersheds, conduct water quality studies, tour a Xeriscape garden and visit a drinking water treatment facility. You’ll walk away with the Project Learning Tree and WET (Water Education for Teachers) curriculum guides and access to Aurora Water’s innovative educational opportunities.

Fee: $50 check to reserve your space; checks will be returned upon completion of the workshop

PLT and Common Core
Project Learning Tree activities are now correlated to the Common Core. Explore interactive reading, writing and math activities that are grounded in engaging environmental concepts and issues.  We will spend part of the day on canyon trails. Leave with a book and personalized plans that you can use immediately. 

Fee: $35, includes activity guide, snacks and additional materials. $7 admission to Castlewood State Park

Focus on Fire (1st-12th grades)
Your one-stop shop for fires and forest education materials! Receive and learn how to use the Project Learning Tree PreK-8th grade activity guide book and other fire activities. Travel to Waldo Canyon burn area to study succession and fire effects on July 27.

City of Wheatridge Open Space - Prospect Park, 8:30am-4:30pm
PLT in the Trees
Receive appropriate PLT activity guide, from preschool to HS.  All activities provide opportunities to build critical thinking skills, incorporate technology, and use differentiated instruction. We'll focus on those that teach about trees: biology, ecology, even physics-as you try out a new personal adventure sport: tree climbing, with ropes and saddles! Safely ascend into the canopies of teaching trees and experience dances with branches while absorbing the natural history, biology, and folklore surrounding the species being climbed. 
Fee: $50 includes activity guide, additional materials and a chance to climb a tree!

November 9-10, 2013
Cal-Wood Education Center, Jamestown, CO, 9am Saturday to 4pm Sunday
Sheltered Instruction Workshops: Teaching English Learners with Project Learning Tree and Project WILD
This weekend is custom-designed for educators who teach classes that are linguistically and culturally diverse, and comprised of English language learners.  Attendees participate in demonstrations of sheltering techniques, practice using rubrics to evaluate activities and text materials, and learn to make modifications to improve the effectiveness. You will leave this workshop with tools to improve your instruction of linguistically diverse students.
Fee: $115 if institution pays for you,  $95 if you pay for yourself. Includes Project Wild/Project Learning Tree Sheltered Education materials, 4 fabulous meals and lodging at Cal-Wood's beautiful retreat facility.
